Marx differentiates between personal effects (one’s house, car, clothing) and property that constitutes the means of production. Marx wrote of the destructive impact on the human condition of individuals owning the means of production (including land) wherein the few who are the “owners” can gain and hoard great wealth at the expense of the many. Wherever on looks in the world, where private property (means of production) flourishes, there is massive economic inequality.
There is no doubt that wealth inequality exists today but to predicate on a particular system is where the general fault with Marxism lies. The inequality of wealth also has existed in the so - called communist blocs but it was under the guise of publicly owned wealth that is controlled by the government. Which de facto created a greater system of inequality that far exceeds what we see in today’s capitalist society’s. The best way I’ve compared it has been by comparing the standard of living amongst part officials in communist countries to that of the common folk. However, I do believe that elitism today has favored people based on certain preferences and prerequisites which has lead to a wealth inequality. This is where I think the problem truly lies. Proper regulation and equal access to the ability to gain what the borguies have is the solution. But then again Marx would scoff at that and call it reactionary
The wealth inequality in Marxist-Leninist countries was a small fraction of that found in western capitalist countries. Of course Marxists would claim that what arose in the Soviet Union was not Marxist, but state capitalist.
Since leaving Soviet power and embracing the market, Russia now has a level of economic inequality comparable to the U.S. and South Africa. Today these three countries are the most economically unequal in the world.
Interesting point , but in reality the standard of living in the Soviet Union has never been that of the United States. In fact it was far lower which lead to black markets being formed to attain goods that couldn’t otherwise be bought through the state owned companies. There could be an argument made that there simply wasn’t enough wealth in the Soviet Union for there to be any inequality. This is especially true if the state owns the companies that would otherwise be privately owned.
As far as Russia having more income inequality than the Soviet Union did, what is being factored in aside from a change in market ideology ? The question would also remain whether they would even be considered truly capitalist? Even the former Russian President Demetry Medvedev in a speech called out the socialist inefficiencies of the Russian economy.
Today, Americas GDP ranking is One with a gdp per capita ranking of 8 .
Russia has a GDP ranking of 22 with a per capita ranking of around 70 depending on the source. What is the US doing right and Russia doing wrong if we are all capitalist?
One must look at historical trend lines, US GDP per capita is gradually slipping vis-a-vis other countries, while Russia’s is dramatically increasing. The questions should be reversed. What is Russia doing that is right, and what is the US doing that is wrong?
Relative to the country’s overall GDP , the GDP capital of the United States is far beyond that of Russia. Furthermore , what negative consequences has the wealth gap in the United States really shown ? The standard of living in the United States is on par with the best of the developed world. I think one must look more into the U.S’s behavioral economic and micro economic choices that are being made at the individual level to further explain any inequalities that are persistent. Regardless, the choices of services Americans have access to are arguably more than that of the average Russian.
In short the idea of financial equality is an idea that doesn’t seem to take in factors that could explain why certain issues in society persist? Now of course if we are taking about the elimination of struggle then I don’t think capitalism , socialism and communism have those answers.
It's outrageous how both communists and squatters think they have a right to what isn't theirs. Homeownership is a symbol of hard work and sacrifice, yet squatter can just swoop in and claim someone else's property. It's a slap in the face to those who have worked tirelessly to achieve the American dream. I’m glad that Florida is taking a stand with tough new laws to protect homeowners from these brazen intruders. It's about time we defend what's rightfully ours and put an end to this disregard for property rights.
I agree i feel that America is getting soft and going down the communist route. Work hard for your asset's the government should help home owners instead of benefiting "tenants" or Squatters 3 months with out rent at my property and will loose my home. If anything a tennate should be penalized for not paying rent i loose my house and they walk away scot free. My self living in Florida greatly appreciate what Governor Ron DeSantis did. You work hard your whole life to acquire a property and someone can come and take it a no cost MADNESS.
