The impending reset of college education.
College education is at a breaking point, political indoctrination and the lack of real-world instruction is leaving college students far behind their peers.
The obsession of a college educated workforce is coming to an end. Whatever a college degree used to stand for is quickly fading away. Increasingly people are questioning the type of education a college degree implies. Questions surrounding the indoctrination of students into flawed political and social ideologies are warranted.
Universities have now become a breeding ground for ill developed social movements that don’t portray the reality of everyday life in the U.S or the world. Take the recent Pro-Palestine protest that have violently rocked universities across the country.
What could have been an organic message for peace turned into a hotbed for outside infiltrators that enticed students to unquestionably follow them. This goes against what college is supposed to be, questioning the trends, and not taking anything for face value. Instead, we have seen interviews where students didn’t even know why they were protesting. This is the norm; people in college learning and doing things without question.
The effect this has on students is limiting their hiring prospects post-graduation. A survey conducted by Independent.com shows the extent of the damage that has been done to the allure of being “college educated”.
Some of the key findings point out that “38% of employers avoid hiring recent college graduates in favor of older employees”. Additionally, “1 in 5 employers have had a recent college graduate bring a parent to a job interview”.
I believe this is resulting from the lack or absence of real-world teaching in universities. The statistics from the survey tell a story that show the consequences of the misguided principles that have taken hold of America’s universities.
America’s income expectation for college graduates is nothing but a well-versed lie. You will often hear the ominous defenders of college claim that “on average college degree holders earn more”. The problem with this statistic is the average of college degree earners are offset by people who studied subjects with high earning outcomes. Areas of study such as engineering, science, and technology are making the income average look better for other areas of study such as Gender studies, art, history and other liberal arts degrees.
According to the Federal Reserve, degrees in fine arts, history and other liberal arts fields make a yearly salary of 40,000 within 5 years of graduation. This is hardly enough for many people to live off, especially when making payments to loans they needed to get those degrees in the first place.
Some people will blame this economic disparity on employers. In a way they are right. If you’re paying 40,000 a year, then maybe you shouldn’t require a bachelor's degree to get the job. On the flip side, people should also have some common sense before studying degrees that are essentially worthless. If you’re getting a degree in philanthropy, then maybe you shouldn’t need some yourself.
College indoctrination:
There’s this idea that people with degrees are better off. Almost as if they are better people. This is clearly shown when news outlets or researcher compare the voting behavior of the college educated Vs Non-college educated. For example, liberal leaning outlets will highlight that non-college educated people are more likely to vote for trump. They are essentially insinuating that since college educated individuals vote democrat then they must be making the smarter decisions, because they went to college.
There are many smart people in college, there are also many indoctrinated people. Could it be possible that the reason college students vote blue is because they are taught to?
This is especially true when looking at students who are studying liberal arts degrees. Many of the subjects in this area of study focus on the world’s problems. Which is a good thing, the world needs that. The problem is the courses are teaching the dynamics of the world through a revolutionary lens. The coursework focuses on blaming capitalism and America for all the world’s problems. What you’re left with is a bunch of whiny children with no real idea of how the world works and or any plausible way to make it better.
