The start of the current political firestorm that has engulfed domestic politics can be pinpointed to the election of Donald Trump in 2016. It is incredibly surprising that the left-wing establishment could not see why a populist like Donald Trump was elected in the first place. Regardless as to the reasoning behind their initial blindness, it seems as though the democratic party and left-wing media organizations are on the way towards making the same miscalculation. Which is discounting the preliminary polls, ignoring Trumps loyal following and underestimating Donald Trump himself.
Trump not only has a large cohort of followers but in many ways, has carved out his own section within the Political spectrum. The wide use of terms such as Trumpism and MAGA Republicans only goes to show the successful achievements of Trump’s political ambitions. What is even more remarkable is how 48 percent of all voters in the last election still voted for Trump despite profound efforts by left-wing media organizations to destroy his image along with the people who voted for him. Terms that are peddled through left wing media outlets such as “Trump Derangement Syndrome” shows that the left fails to understand the big picture, people vote for Trump because they sense he has privilege other politicians don’t, the ability to say what he feels without being tied down by the super PACs and donors that trade dollar signs for political influence.
Now of course there are plenty of rich politicians, but many of them didn’t get rich until after they entered politics. This presents a problem that until Trump, no one has really been able to take advantage of. Most politicians simply can’t point to their means of getting rich because it will come off as disingenuous, especially when they have been in congress for over a couple decades. But Trump isn’t tied down by the modest appearance that is needed when a career politician talks about their finances. Instead, he uses the history of his wealth and business dealing as a marketing point.
Looking back at the debates he had with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Presidential race, Trump repeatedly leaned on his business experience as a way to bolster up his knowledge on how to create jobs. Even when confronted with the history of his business-related losses as a way not to pay taxes, trump was able to show that his knowledge of financial systems and tax loopholes to minimize losses. Now, this isn’t to say that career politicians don’t have the same knowledge of the financial system trump does. The difference is, Trump isn’t burdened by having to support a public service-oriented persona built over the span of decades. As is the case for many career politicians.
People vote for Trump because he rises above party politics and runs as himself. His rhetoric is often met with ghastly rebuttals from left-wing media, striking fear about a Trump Presidency amongst their viewers with every subsequent article and television story. And, although fear may be a useful tool in persuading voters, it doesn’t carry the same weight as Hope. Here you will find Trump’s greatest strength. He is delivering hope to people who feel alienated by policies that fail to consider other viewpoints that are not deemed “progressive”. The high horse that the left rides is born out of their belief that their policies are inclusive when in fact they are not. Ignoring a large part of the population’s values and traditions only serve to set the stage for major political upheaval.
